SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team went to overtime Saturday for the first time this season, but the Raiders dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Seton Hill in a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a sunny day at David See Field.
Shippensburg (5-4-0, 4-4-0 PSAC) and Seton Hill (8-2-0, 7-2-0) were scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play. The Griffin got on the board first in the 67th minute, but the tally was answered less than three minutes later on a perfect free kick from junior
Kelsy Fitzgerald that soared into the upper ninety.
The Raiders and Griffins ended regulation tied 1-1, but the difference came 4:36 into the extra session. Seton Hill's Madison Schwerzler created separation from her defender and ripped a high shot off the top right off the crossbar and into the net from approximately 12 yards out for the golden goal.
The visitors posted a 15-8 edge in shots on goal and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore
Delaney Shifflett made 13 saves for the Raiders in the loss. Shifflett has now posted double-digit saves in three of the last four matches.
