RECAP: No. 4 Field Hockey Overcomes Valiant Charge From IUP, 4-2

Raiders rally from two one-goal deficits for sixth win of season

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4 Shippensburg University field hockey team rallied from two separate one-goal deficits on Saturday to defeat visiting IUP, 4-2, in the final "non-conference" match of the season from Robb Sports Complex.

Sophomore Jazmin Petrantonio had a hand in all four goals for Shippensburg (6-1), posting her third hat trick of the season and assisting on SU's final tally of the match scored by junior Megan Green.

Through seven games this season, Petrantonio has totaled 12 goals and three assists for 27 points.

SU posted a 15-1 shot advantage in the first half, but the lone shot from IUP (1-6) resulted in the first goal of the match. The Crimson Hawks earned a corner after a 2-on-1 break, and Hannah Miller converted to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark.

With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, the Raiders responded as Petrantonio converted a corner into a goal after a setup from freshman Jenna Sluymer. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.

IUP opened the second half by scoring on an odd-man rush, but again the Raiders responded. Petrantonio notched two more goals just six minutes apart to give Shippensburg its first lead of the contest – with the go-ahead tally coming with 4:23 remaining. Green's fifth goal of the year clinched the result with 1:01 left.

For the match, Shippensburg posted a 30-4 advantage in shots and a 21-2 advantage in penalty corners. IUP received magnificent goaltending from Olivia Accardi, who finished with 22 saves.
