SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team delivered visiting No. 25 Seton Hill its first loss of the season on Saturday, posting a 2-1 triumph in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Senior Day from David See Field.
Shippensburg (7-2-0, 3-1-0 PSAC) was not rattled by an early goal from Seton Hill (4-1-4, 1-1-3), rebounding with two goals to finish the first half. Junior
Cole Kropnick found the back of the net off a scrum from a corner kick in the 29th minute for his PSAC-leading ninth tally of the season.
The second Raider goal came with two minutes remaining in the first half. Kropnick fed redshirt-sophomore
Erik Espinoza, whose shot was partially stopped by the Griffin goalkeeper but had enough momentum to get across the goal line before a Griffin defender could clear it away.
Shippensburg maintained its lead in the second half, extending its winning streak to three straight matches. Senior
Garret Watson made four saves in the victory.
The Griffins finished with a 16-10 edge in total shots, but shots on goal were even at 5-5. The Raiders had five corner kicks to just three for the visitors.
The contest marked the only home match of the season on a Saturday for the Raiders. As a result, the team held Senior Day early and held a pre-match ceremony to honor its 2018 class:
Justin Blumberg,
Joey Gallucci,
Logan Koch, Kropnick,
Patrick Luebben,
Devlin Mettee, Watson and assistant coach
Matt Harder.
