RECAP: Women’s Soccer Wins PSAC Opener at Edinboro, 4-2

Weigel scores twice in SU victory; Raiders improve to 2-0

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team erupted for three first-half goals in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener on Saturday at Edinboro en route to a 4-2 road victory over the Fighting Scots from Sox Harrison Stadium.

Shippensburg (2-0, 1-0 PSAC) achieved its first victory at Edinboro since head coach Rob Fulton's coaching debut with the Raiders on Aug. 24, 2006. The only other result for the Raiders at Edinboro in the team's last five attempts at Sox Harrison Stadium was an advancement on penalty kicks in the 2013 PSAC Quarterfinals after a 0-0 tie.

Overall, it is SU's first win over Edinboro since a 1-0 victory on Nov. 15, 2013 at Slippery Rock in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

On Saturday, the Raiders led 3-0 at the half and got a pair of goals in the first 45 minutes from junior Izzy Weigel. In the 19th minute, Weigel scored off a corner kick with the setup by freshman K.K. O'Donnell.

Seven minutes later, O'Donnell set up the second SU goal off another corner kick, this time feeding senior Keegan White – who deposited her first collegiate goal.

Weigel's second goal – SU's third of the half -- was a 25-yard shot from midfield. Sophomore Drew Anderson assisted the tally.

In the 83rd minute, sophomore Taylor Moore dribbled through two defenders to convert a breakaway from 15 yards out.

Sophomore Delaney Shifflett was excellent in goal – making four saves in each half.

SU finished with an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
