The Shippensburg University baseball team dropped both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Friday at Bloomsburg, as the Huskies posted victories over the Raiders by scores of 5-0 and 8-0 from Danny Litwhiler Field.
Shippensburg (9-10, 0-3 PSAC East) managed just five hits between the two games. Senior
Dalton Hoiles had both SU hits in the opener, including a double, while senior
Grant Hoover had a double in Game 2 to highlight three Raider base hits in the nightcap.
The Raider starting pitchers, sophomore
Zack Sims and senior
Andy Crum, performed admirably despite the line score. Sims was perfect through four innings in the opener and threw a complete game, striking out seven. Crum struck out a career-high 10 batters in 4.2 innings of the nightcap.
Bloomsburg (12-4, 4-0) got a two-hit shutout in the opener from Ashton Raines and five scoreless innings in the nightcap from starter Nick Stoner. Mike Warren threw two perfect innings of relief. The Huskies have out-scored their opponents 28-2 through their first four conference games.
BU scored three of its five runs in the opener with two outs, and also its first two runs of the nightcap (four overall) with two outs.
Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader from Fairchild Field.
