Allison Fugate scored a golden goal at the 1:40 mark of overtime on Thursday to propel the Shippensburg University lacrosse team to victory over Georgian Court, 11-10, in a non-conference game from New Jersey.
Shippensburg (5-4) found itself on the winning end of a one-goal game for the first time this season, as the Raiders had lost three previous matches this season that had been decided by just one goal.
SU got goals in the final two minutes from freshman
Maddy Siejk and senior
Jordan Kengor to tie the score and force overtime, preceding Fugate's game winner.
Kengor paced the Raider offense with her second straight hat trick – she has scored nine goals over the last three games and has set a new single-season career high with 12 goals overall this year.
Fugate and Siejk scored twice on the day, while freshman
Jena MacDonald had a goal and assisted on two of Kengor's goals. Seven different Raiders found the back of the net in the contest.
Junior
Valerie Hertz had seven groundballs and three draw controls to pace the Raiders. Fellow junior
Madi Newman had a goal, assist and three groundballs. Senior
Caroline Carbonaro added three groundballs.
Senior
Makenzie Magnotta and junior
Rene Morrow each were credited with two caused turnovers.
Freshman
KiKi Brasher posted double-digit saves once again and has had a save percentage of .500 or better in every game this season for the Raiders. Brasher also had four groundballs.
Georgian Court (4-6) led 3-1 after the first 10 minutes of play and also held a two-goal lead, 10-8, with 2:36 remaining. Samantha Fernandez scored five goals for the Lions, giving her 34 tallies this season through 10 games. Thursday's game marked the fifth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent this season for GCU – the Lions defeated Kutztown but lost to Lock Haven, West Chester and Edinboro.
The contest was originally scheduled for March 2, but postponed to Thursday as a result of inclement weather that affected Georgian Court earlier this month.
Shippensburg travels to Millersville on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Marauders from the Biemesderfer.
