Video to come.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –
The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had a strong start Wednesday night but could not overcome a pair of decisive Millersville runs, dropping a 72-65 decision to the Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Pucillo Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (5-17, 4-12 PSAC) got a game-high 35 points from freshman Ariel Jones, who recorded her second straight 30-point game and her fourth 30-point game of the season. Jones set a career high with 12 field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, and was 9-of-12 at the free-throw line. She also had two assists and three steals.

Freshman Kryshell Gordy had 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go along with four rebounds. It was Gordy's eighth game in double figures this season. Senior Kristin McGeough had a team-high 12 rebounds – marking her seventh game this season with double-digit rebounds. McGeough also had four points, two assists and two blocks.

Senior Victoria Blackburn had five points and had as many assists (six) as the entire Millersville team did on Wednesday night. It was the ninth time in the last 10 games that Blackburn has recorded at least three assists.

Shippensburg had a tremendous start to the game, limiting the Marauders to five first-quarter points and 20-percent shooting in the first 10 minutes while forcing eight turnovers. The Raiders led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and built a 24-6 lead with 6:50 remaining in the first half.

Millersville (12-10, 9-9) countered, however, closing the first half on a 23-4 run to take a one-point halftime advantage, 29-28. MU shot 73 percent (8-of-11) from the field and made 7-of-8 at the free-throw line during the run, while the Raiders shot just 23 percent in the second quarter.

It was a two-point game after three quarters, but the difference ended up being a 9-0 Marauder run in which senior Alayah Hall scored all of the points – giving Millersville a 10-point lead with 6:52 remaining. Hall was integral to the Marauder cause, as the senior from Dover totaled a career-high 33 points on the night. Janelle Robinson added a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds for MU.

The Raiders got within three points of the lead late in the game, but could not complete the comeback. MU hit all six of its free-throw attempts in the final 30 seconds.

Shippensburg travels to Lock Haven on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Bald Eagles. SU won the first meeting of the year Heiges Field House, 81-59, back on Jan. 10.
