SALISBURY, N.C. – The Shippensburg University baseball team opened the 2018 regular season Friday night in North Carolina but dropped a non-conference matchup at Catawba, 11-2, from Newman Park.

Shippensburg (0-1) got multi-hit efforts from senior
Dalton Hoiles and junior
Cash Gladfelter. Hoiles went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Gladfelter tallied a team-high three hits while also driving in a run.

Catawba (2-8) scored six runs over the first four innings of play to outpace the Raiders on the night. Senior
Gabe Mosser started on the mound for SU, tallying six strikeouts in four innings of work.

Kyle Lysy and
Jack Jenkens, redshirt-freshman
Noah Inch and freshman
Dalton Oates all made appearances out of the Raider bullpen.

Jenkins pitched 1.2 innings, recording a strikeout while surrendering just one run. Oates pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut.

Shippensburg will return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when it will take on Catawba in one nine-inning game.
