RECAP: No. 20 Men’s Basketball Wins PSAC Opener Over Seton Hill, 84-70

Kellem leads all scorers with 25 points; Castello gets double-double

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 20 Shippensburg University men's basketball team pulled away in the second half on Saturday to claim its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener with an 84-70 victory over visiting Seton Hill from Heiges Field House.
 
Shippensburg (7-0, 1-0 PSAC) committed just one foul and one turnover through the first 18 minutes, leading by as many as 14 points with five minutes remaining in the first half before Seton Hill (1-5, 0-1) used a 10-0 run to get within five points at halftime.
 
SU led by seven points with 10:40 remaining before a 7-0 run extended its advantage to 14 points. The team's largest lead was 18 points in the final two minutes.
 
The Raiders posted a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds and scored 23 second-chance points compared to just four for the visitors. Overall, SU posted a 47-30 edge in rebounding.
 
Senior Antonio Kellem led all scorers, tying a career high with 25 points including three three-pointers. Kellem added five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
 
Junior John Castello had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the young season. Sophomore Jake Biss also scored 16 points, while redshirt-senior Manny Span finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
 
Shippensburg got 14 points from its bench – including six from junior Daylon Carter. Redshirt-freshman Dom Sleva added four points and six rebounds.
 
The visiting Griffins shot 64 percent from the field in the first half and 51 percent overall for the game. Malik McKinney had 24 points and five assists without a turnover in 39 minutes, while Nathan Davis scored 15 points and made his first seven shots from the field.
