RECAP: Women’s Basketball Drops PSAC Road Contest at Gannon

SU falls 95-56, cannot overcome torrid shooting from the Golden Knights

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome the strong shooting of home-standing Gannon on Tuesday night, as the Raiders dropped a 95-56 decision in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from the Hammermill Center.

Shippensburg (5-6, 2-2 PSAC) got 29 points from sophomore Ariel Jones, but the Raiders shot just 35 percent overall from the field. Jones was 11-of-11 from the free-throw line, tying her most accurate performance at the line in her career (11-of-11 at Kutztown on Feb. 12, 2018). It is the second straight game and seventh time in her career that Jones has made double-digit free throws.

Freshman Aunbrielle Green scored nine points, recorded a career-high four steals and had three rebounds. Sophomore Kryshell Gordy led the Raiders with six rebounds, while freshmen Lauren Pettis and Lauren Mills each grabbed five rebounds.

Gannon (6-5, 2-2) shot 58 percent from the field, including 50 percent from three-point range (9-of-18), en route to a season high in points. GU totaled 39 bench points and scored 30 points off 19 SU turnovers.

All 12 Golden Knights that took the floor Tuesday night scored points, with five posting double figures. Nicole LaCava scored 16 points, while Chelsea Rourke totaled 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

UP NEXT: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. vs. Clarion.
