RECAP: Women’s Basketball Ends Road Trip With 63-54 Win at Clarion

Jones records first collegiate double-double; three Raiders post double figures

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team completed a four-game road trip on Wednesday with a road victory over Clarion, posting a 63-54 win over the Golden Eagles in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from CU's Student Recreation Center.

Shippensburg (6-6, 3-2) led for the majority of the game, but never led by more than five points in the second half until the final minute. SU passed the ball well in the first half – recording eight assists in the opening 20 minutes – and finished with 14 turnovers, marking its second-fewest in a game this season.

Clarion (7-5, 1-4) grabbed its only lead of the game with 3:49 remaining on a pair of free throws, but sophomore Ariel Jones immediately responded with a three-pointer and a traditional three-point play on consecutive positions and the Raiders would not trail the rest of the way. SU closed the game on a 12-1 run.

Jones finished with her first collegiate double-double, posting game highs with 26 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She also recorded a career-high six steals; led the team with four assists, made Shippensburg's only three-pointer and finished 7-of-10 at the free-throw line.

Freshman Lauren Pettis achieved her second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Pettis was 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Freshman Aunbrielle Green scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, totaled three assists and did not commit a turnover in 37 minutes.

Freshman Lauren Mills scored seven points while collecting two rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Kryshell Gordy had two points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Off the bench, redshirt-sophomore Lindsay Embly was strong in 15 minutes of action – shooting 3-of-3 from the floor to post six points. Embly also had three rebounds.

UP NEXT: Saturday, Dec. 29, 1 p.m. vs. Mercyhurst.
