RECAP: No. 5 Field Hockey Beats IUP, 4-1, Earns PSAC’s No. 3 Seed

Jenna Sluymer contributed to all four SU goals against the Crimson Hawks

The No. 5-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team used a pair of goals late in the second half Saturday to pull away and claim its sixth-straight victory, defeating host IUP by a 4-1 score in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a cool and sunny afternoon at Miller Stadium.

Shippensburg (13-3, 7-2 PSAC) clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament with the win over IUP (3-13, 2-7) and will host a home conference quarterfinal on Tuesday, Nov. 13 against a to-be-determined opponent.

Sophomore Jazmin Petrantonio scored two goals while freshman Jenna Sluymer added a goal and a career-high three assists for the Raiders.

Petrantonio scored the first goal of the contest in the 20th minute, and sophomore Kelly Shulenberger scored the second goal less than two minutes later. IUP got a goal from Brianna Lubarsky to cut its deficit to 2-1 before the break.

SU maintained its 2-1 lead into the final nine minutes of play before achieving its decisive two-goal outburst. Sluymer knocked in the third goal of the game for the Raiders with 8:16 remaining before Petrantonio scored her 17th goal of the year with 5:44 left on the clock off a Sluymer assist.

Shippensburg outshot IUP 23-4, while the Raiders earned 19 penalty corners and limited the Crimson Hawks to just one.

Redshirt-senior Ally Mooney made two saves — both in the first half — in the victory.

Shippensburg has one regular-season game remaining next Saturday. SU will honor Mooney — the team's lone senior — before the contest.

UP NEXT: Saturday, 1 p.m. vs Mercyhurst.
