RECAP: Men’s Basketball Grinds Out Road Victory at California (Pa.), 61-58

Talley (13 points, 11 rebounds) achieves first career double-double in the win

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team held host California (Pa.) to just three points over the final 4:37 on Sunday to come from behind and defeat the Vulcans, 61-58, in a non-conference matchup from the Convocation Center.

Shippensburg (5-0) posted a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds, which resulted in a 27-8 edge in second-chance points. SU shot just 35 percent from the field, including a 22-percent proficiency (7-of-32) from three-point range, and made just 6-of-14 (43 percent) at the free-throw line, but employed strong defense down the stretch to remain undefeated.

California (0-3), limited to just seven players on Sunday, got a game-high 16 points from Collin McAdams and led for much of the second half. Both teams led by as many as eight points in the contest, with the Vulcans holding a 49-41 advantage with 9:38 to play. Cal managed just nine points the rest of the way, however, in a game that featured eight lead changes.

Sophomore point guard Jake Biss hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 1:45 remaining that gave the Raiders a 58-57 lead. Biss finished with nine points and six assists.

Junior Lamar Talley posted his first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Raiders. Talley hit three of SU's seven three-pointers and came up with a key block and rebound on the possession immediately following Biss's go-ahead three-pointer.

Junior John Castello and redshirt-senior Manny Span combined for 22 points at the forward spot. Castello equaled Talley with a team-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Span had nine points and eight rebounds – six of which were on the offensive glass.

Redshirt-freshman Dom Sleva continued to perform well off the bench, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Senior Antonio Kellem added seven points, five rebounds and three assists.
