SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team battled No. 8 Kutztown to the final whistle on Tuesday but came up short, dropping a 1-0 decision to the visiting Golden Bears in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at David See Field.
Shippensburg (6-6-0, 5-6-0 PSAC) managed multiple scoring chances on the day and recorded five corner kicks, but could not find the back of the net. Its best chance came late in the first half, when a re-direct off a corner was stopped at the right goalpost by KU defender Erica Monte Carlo for a team save.
The Raiders also put forth a solid defensive effort and received 11 saves from sophomore
Delaney Shifflett in the contest.
Kutztown (10-2-0, 8-2-0) managed the decisive strike with 13:49 to play, when Emily Zwiercan potted her ninth goal of the season with a strong shot that changed direction off a defender's foot and past Shifflett. SU's last sustained scoring chance came on a corner kick in the 88th minute that ultimately went for naught.
Tuesday's match marked the third 1-0 result of the season for the Raiders. SU defeated Clarion, 1-0, while dropping a match to IUP by the same score.
