The Shippensburg University women's soccer team earned its first tie of the 2018 season Friday, playing to a 1-1 draw at California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road matchup from Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
Shippensburg (6-6-1, 5-6-1 PSAC) and California (1-10-2, 0-10-2) each scored a goal in the first half that would prove to the lone scoring in the match. Shots on goal finished 8-7 in SU's favor, and the Raiders held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman
K.K. O'Donnell scored her third goal of the season in the 24th minute, converting a rebound to open the scoring. In the 37th minute, Cal answered with a header off a free kick.
Sophomore
Delaney Shifflett made six saves overall, including at least one in all four sessions of play.
Both teams nearly notched a win in overtime, as an O'Donnell shot hit the post in the 95th minute, while a Vulcan shot hit the crossbar with three minutes to play.
The tie is SU's first since a 2-2 matchup in last year's season opener against West Virginia Wesleyan.
