SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half on Wednesday to defeat Jefferson, 2-0, in a non-conference match from a cold and windy David See Field. The match was SU's home finale.
Shippensburg (7-9-1) was able to evade the offsides trap of Jefferson (7-9-1) for a pair of strikes. With less than four minutes left in the first half, sophomore
Casey Bell scored her second goal of the season with a tap-in from the goal box, converting a cross from a skillful sideline run by senior
Chloe Flemion.
Both of Bell's goals this season have been game-winners. It is the second assist of the season for Flemion.
The second SU strike came in the 77th minute. Sophomore
Taylor Moore flicked a shot on goal that was deflected away by the drawn-out Jefferson goalkeeper, and eventually, the loose ball went over to senior
Beth McGee, who fired high into the net for her second tally of the season.
Shots on goal were 9-5 in SU's favor, and the Raiders also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Delaney Shifflett made five saves to achieve her fourth shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.
