Field Hockey Caps Off SHIP U. Classic With Convincing Victory Over SCSU

Bouyea, Barnard each post hat tricks in the victory for the Raiders

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team capped off the 2017 SHIP U. Field Hockey Classic on Sunday with a convincing victory over Southern Connecticut State, 8-0, on a pleasant afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-0) got hat tricks from seniors Rebecca Bouyea and Emily Barnard in the contest, while freshman Jazmin Petrantonio and sophomore Megan Green each scored a goal.

The goals were the first career tallies for Bouyea, who was playing in her 31st collegiate contest. Barnard finished the weekend with four goals in two games, having also scored the overtime game winner on Saturday night.

Seniors Brooke Sheibley and Mary Spisak, along with Petrantonio, each finished with one assist.

The Raiders established a 6-0 halftime advantage before adding two more goals in the second half. SU dominated the match territorially, and also finished with a 15-1 edge in penalty corners.

Southern Connecticut (0-2) got 24 saves from goalkeeper Brianna Craft. The visitors managed just three shots against the Raiders on the afternoon.

Redshirt-juniors Ally Mooney and Catherine Matuszko split time in goal. Mooney made two saves in the first half, while Matuszko was credited with one save in the second half.

Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to face No. 2 East Stroudsburg.
