Tennis Drops Conference Crossover to Clarion in Home Opener, 8-1

Coath wins No. 6 singles for the second time in two dual meets

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team totaled 13 points in both singles and doubles play on Wednesday afternoon but came up short in a conference crossover match with Clarion, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Golden Eagles on a hot, muggy afternoon from the Robb Sports Complex Tennis Courts.

Shippensburg (0-2) got a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles from junior Hannah Coath – improving to 2-0 in singles play in dual meets this season. Coath and sophomore Daisy Rundio were nearly triumphant in No. 3 doubles as well, but the duo dropped a 9-8 (3) decision.

Sophomores Madeline Carson and junior Kaylin Gallagher teamed up for five points at No. 2 doubles. Carson won three games at No. 3 singles, while Gallagher claimed four games at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Catherine Miller won three games at No. 1 singles.

Clarion (2-1) grabbed the 3-0 match lead with wins in each doubles match before claiming five of the six singles matches.

Shippensburg will send representatives to Bloomsburg University this weekend to compete in the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships, scheduled for Saturday through Monday from the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
