SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team made it back-to-back victories on Wednesday afternoon, claiming a hard-fought 5-2 win over Juniata in action at sunny Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-3) established momentum by working hard to earn the doubles point. After dropping the No. 1 doubles match by a 6-3 score, Brinley Orris and Ava Kalist evened it up for SU with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

It came down to the wire at No. 3 doubles, where Rachel Gallagher and Taylor Maguire got the Raiders on top with a 6-4 victory.

The key to securing the match win came in singles triumphs by Orris at No. 3 and Samhitha Koganti at No. 2. Both matches went to a third-set tiebreak and were decided by three points or less.

At No. 3 singles, Orris claimed a 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 victory to narrowly outlast Nina Meadows. Koganti's victory at No. 2 singles over Celia Navarro de Torres was 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

Kalist won love-love over Lauryn Parcon at No. 5 singles while Gallagher battled to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Maguire also went three sets at No. 6 singles in a terrific clash with Katie Wagoner. Maguire won 10 singles games in total, but Wagoner came out on top at the end – winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Juniata (1-1), a squad that defeated Penn State Altoona yesterday (SU's last match was a 5-2 win over Altoona last week), received a strong performance at No. 1 singles from Medina Yessenaliyeva.

Shippensburg is scheduled to compete at the ITA regional tournament in two weeks to wrap up the fall.
