SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday against Edinboro, 3-2, from David See Field in its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup of the year.
Shippensburg (0-1-1, 0-1 PSAC) held a one-goal advantage through 85 minutes until Edinboro (1-0-1, 1-0-1) scored two goals over the final five minutes to seal the win.
SU got on the board first when junior
Kiersten Priest found the back of the net on her corner attempt in the 14th minute. SU would take the one-goal advantage into halftime.
The Fighting Scots would tie the game in the 51st minute on Ashley Mutkus's first goal of the season when she found the back of the net from 25 yards out.
SU would recapture the lead 20 minutes later on sophomore
Isabella Weigel's first goal of the season off an assist from senior
Kat Hartner.
Edinboro would go on to score two goals in the final five minutes to defeat the Raiders and secure its first PSAC win.
Freshman
Delaney Shifflett recorded six saves for the Raiders in the loss.
Shippensburg will return to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. when it will host Mansfield.
