SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon, 5-2, on a warm and sunny day from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (5-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Slippery Rock (4-3) within the first 20 minutes. Senior
Emily Barnard scored in the 13th and 19th minutes with the second off an assist from senior
Lauren Zengulis. Barnard brought her season total to nine on the season.
The Raiders would take the 2-0 lead into the half and expand their lead eight minutes into the second half when senior
Brooke Sheibley ripped a shot from just inside the circle to make it 3-0.
Slippery Rock cut into the lead in the 55th minute with a goal from Kailee Krupski. However, Shippensburg responded quickly with a goal from senior
Mary Spisak less than two minutes later off an assist from Zengulis.
Spisak would tally her second goal of the day off an assist from freshman
Maddie Parr in the 64th minute to extend the SU lead to 5-1. The Rock added a goal by Kayla Ulrich with four minutes remaining to seal the final result of 5-2.

Catherine Matuszko saw action in net for the Raiders. Mooney added her fifth win of the year and made two saves while Matuszko registered one
Shippensburg will return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Mansfield for the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup of the year.
