The Shippensburg University volleyball team posted a split on Friday in a pair of matches against Mountain East Conference (MEC) opponents, first dropping a 3-0 decision to host Wheeling Jesuit before rallying with a 3-0 victory over Charleston in competition held inside the McDonough Center.

Shippensburg (6-4) lost to the Cardinals by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-11 before sweeping the Golden Eagles by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17.

Sophomore
Kendall Johnson had a banner day, excelling in both matches. She led off with 14 kills and a .407 hitting percentage against a Wheeling Jesuit squad that has won six consecutive Atlantic Region Championships. Johnson followed that up with 11 kills and a .381 hitting percentage against Charleston.

Those performances result in a .396 hitting percentage on the day, swinging just six errors over 48 attempts on the afternoon. She also led the team with eight blocks – contributing to four in each match.

Sophomore
Samantha Webber, a fellow middle, averaged three kills per set by totaling 18 on the day. Her efficiency continued, swinging to a .341 percentage on 41 attempts. Webber had a standout effort against Charleston, totaling a team-high 12 kills against the Golden Eagles and hitting a stupendous .556 in the straight-set win.

Gabriella Johnson totaled 10 kills, 17 digs and five blocks. Junior
Morgan DeFloria had 13 kills on the day – including 10 against Charleston. Freshman
Emily Hangen compiled 60 assists and 19 digs over the two matches.

Megan Forstburg matched Hangen with a team-high 19 digs on the day.
Gabriella Johnson and junior
Courtney Malott each served three aces – SU totaled nine over the two matches.

Shippensburg travels to West Liberty University tomorrow for two more matches against MEC opponents. The Raiders will face the host Hilltoppers at 11 a.m. before taking on Fairmont State at 4 p.m.
