SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader Friday from Kutztown, 6-2 and 3-1, on Military Appreciation Day from Fairchild Field.

Shippensburg (23-18-1, 14-8 PSAC) used quality starts from junior
Gabe Mosser and redshirt-freshman
Zack Sims to defeat Kutztown (15-27, 4-18) and win its fourth consecutive PSAC contest.

Junior
Nick Spangler led the way offensively for SU, going 3-for-5 on the day with three RBIs and two runs scored. Junior
Dalton Hoiles went 3-for-6 including a no-doubt home run in Game 2. Hoiles finished with three RBIs and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Senior
Ryan McMillen also collected three hits on the day while scoring three runs. Sophomores
Jack Goertzen,
Tommy Baggett and
Drew Bene all added two hits on the day.

Mosser went the distance in Game 1 to collect his fifth win of the year and fourth complete game. The junior surrendered just two earned runs while striking out nine Golden Bears.

Sims stifled the Golden Bears in game 2, throwing 6.1 innings scattering four hits, surrendering just one run and striking out three. Junior
Andy Crum got the final two outs for SU to record his first save of the year.

Shippensburg will finish its four-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Kutztown.

Game 1
Â
The Raiders got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first. Spangler singled up the middle to drive in McMillen. Two batters later, Hoiles singled to left, driving in Spangler and extending the SU advantage to 2-0.

After Kutztown got a run back in the second, Shippensburg responded an inning later with two more runs. Kennedy drove in his 60th run of the year on a walk that scored McMillen while Hoiles reached on a fielder's choice scoring Spangler.

SU added two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single from McMillen and a sacrifice fly from Spangler to seal the 6-2 victory.

Game 2

SU opened the scoring again in the second game, executing a successful double steal that saw junior
Grant Hoover steal second while Hoiles stole home.

Hoiles added to the SU lead in the fourth with his fifth home run of the year over the left-field fence. Kutztown broke through in the fifth with a run on a Bo Rottet RBI single to cut the lead in half.

Shippensburg added an insurance run in the fifth on a RBI single from Spangler that scored McMillen. Sims and Crum combined to finish the game to secure the Game 2 victory.
