Softball Sweeps Millersville in PSAC East Doubleheader, 4-3 and 5-0

SU gets two complete-game efforts from Wilson; three hits from Geis

The Shippensburg University softball team weathered a rainy Saturday afternoon to sweep a road doubleheader at Millersville, posting victories of 4-3 and 5-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play from Seaber Softball Stadium.

Shippensburg (24-17, 7-5 PSAC East) got two complete-game efforts in the circle from sophomore Taryn Wilson, who yielded just three runs on eight hits in 14 innings of work. Wilson struck out 12 hitters and limited the Marauders to a .163 batting average against. In her Game 2 shutout, Wilson allowed just two singles, walked none, and struck out four.

Millersville (21-26, 2-12) took a 1-0 lead in Game 1 through three innings before a rain delay resulted in a dance-off between the two teams. After the festivities, the Raiders responded with a four-run fourth inning that was capped off by a two-run double from junior Maddie Mulhall. SU yielded single runs in the fourth and the sixth but ultimately staved off the Marauders.

In Game 2, SU scored four runs in the third inning – capped off by a two-run double by freshman Meghan Klee. The Raiders were aided in the inning by a pair of Marauder errors. In the circle, Wilson retired 17-in-a-row at one point, and allowed just one runner into scoring position the entire game.

Freshman Kendall Geis paced the Raiders with three hits on the day, including two doubles. Geis had an RBI and two runs scored. Junior Macy Luck was 2-for-2 in Game 2 with a double, sacrifice and run scored. Junior Chloe Collins had a pair of hits, an RBI and a stolen base.

Shippensburg further enhanced its chances of securing a PSAC Tournament berth, having established a four-game divisional lead on fourth-place East Stroudsburg with four games remaining. ESU has six games remaining, but the Raiders are guaranteed no worse than a season split with the Warriors. Saturday's sweep gives SU a 3-1 season series victory over the Marauders.

Shippensburg remains on the road Sunday, heading to Delaware to face Wilmington. Sunday's doubleheader has been pushed back to a 1:30 p.m. start.
