Lacrosse Drops Home Conference Contest to No. 12 West Chester

SU gets two goals from Whiteside and Fugate; four draw controls from Barkley

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup with No. 12 West Chester on Tuesday, as the Golden Rams emerged with a 27-8 victory over the Raiders on a sunny afternoon from Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (6-8, 2-7 PSAC) scored the first three goals of the game and held West Chester (10-3, 7-2) scoreless for the first seven minutes before the Golden Rams responded with an offensive counter-attack that gave the visitors the lead for good.

Junior Allison Fugate and freshman Morgan Whiteside each scored twice for the Raiders, with Whiteside totaling a career-high three points (two goals, one assist). Senior Amanda Frank had a hand in two of the first three goals for SU, finishing with a goal and two assists.

Sophomore Kyra Shank, senior Ali Harclerode and sophomore Morgan Stone each added goals, while sophomore Maggie Lawshe provided two assists.

Senior Max Barkley had four of SU's 11 draw controls on the day. Harclerode had two caused turnovers, while sophomore Valerie Hertz paced the Raiders with four groundballs.

Sophomore Bridgette Morrissey and freshman Laney Ballard each made two saves. Ballard relieved Morrissey in goal for the final 20 minutes of the match.

West Chester got four goals and eight assists from Dina Cifelli, who became the PSAC's all-time record holder for career assists (210) in the contest.

Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday with a pivotal PSAC clash at Edinboro.
