SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought home contest to No. 20 Seton Hill on Saturday, falling 14-12 to the Griffins in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a sunny and warm day at Robb Sports Complex.
Â
Shippensburg (6-7, 2-7 PSAC) and Seton Hill (8-6, 6-4) played to an 8-8 score at halftime, and the Raiders scored the first goal of the second half on a free-position strike from sophomore
Maggie Lawshe. The Griffins, however, responded with five consecutive goals over a 10-minute span to gain a lead they ultimately would not relinquish.
Â
Sophomore
Kyra Shank caged her first hat trick of the season and the second of her career to lead the Raider scoring effort. Three Raiders scored two goals on the day: seniors
Max Barkley,
Ali Harclerode and
Amanda Frank.
Â
Barkley recorded an incredible 10 draw controls – a season high and her second double-digit draw control game of the last two years (she had 11 last season versus Edinboro; plus 17 in a single-match record vs. Millersville in 2015). Harclerode and Frank each added an assist.
Â
Senior
Annemarie Cericola paced the defense with five groundballs while junior
Makenzie Magnotta and sophomore
Valerie Hertz each collected three. Cericola and Magnotta each recorded a caused turnover, while Hertz had three draw controls and also recorded a nifty team save in the second half with a lunging stick clear off a Seton Hill shot.
Â
Junior
Allison Fugate and freshman
Morgan Whiteside rounded out the goal scorers on the Raider scoresheet, while junior
Jordan Kengor contributed an assist.
Â
Sophomore
Bridgette Morrissey recorded five saves, collected two groundballs and had one caused turnover.
Â
Saturday's game ended around 5 p.m. – it was delayed two hours due to a lack of available officials and the contest took two hours to complete.
