SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team fell to No. 7-ranked West Chester on Friday afternoon, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinal on a beautiful day from Robb Sports Complex.
 
Shippensburg (14-4) and West Chester (14-6) went back and forth all day long, exchanging offensive chances throughout the contest. Both teams finished with 18 total shots, with the Golden Rams holding a slight edge in shots on goal, 10-7. The Raiders finished with 12 penalty corners compared to 11 for the Golden Rams.
 
Despite all the offensive chances, the lone goal came in the 20th minute when Caitlin Kelly tipped home a shot from Kaitlin Hatch. It was Kelly's 10th goal of the year.
 
Shippensburg would not go down without a fight, pressuring West Chester in long stretches of the game, but ultimately could not sneak a goal by West Chester goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo.
 
Senior 
Lauren Zengulis paced the Raiders offensively with a game-high three shots on goal – including a second-half shot that was denied at the post by WCU defender Caitie McNamara. Senior 
Kylie Huffman finished the day with two shots on goal. Eight different Raiders tallied a shot on the afternoon.
 
Redshirt-junior goalkeeper 
Ally Mooney made nine saves in the loss.
 
Shippensburg now awaits the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships selection show, which is scheduled to air at 3 p.m. on Monday at ncaa.com.
