Women’s Basketball Falls in PSAC Road Matchup at Slippery Rock, 92-63

Blackburn leads SU with 18 points

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team dropped its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup of the year Saturday afternoon, 92-63, at Slippery Rock from Morrow Field House.

Shippensburg (0-3, 0-1 PSAC) fell behind Slippery Rock (1-2, 1-0) early and could not overcome a cold shooting afternoon in the loss. SU finished the day 20-of-56 from the field for a 35.7 field goal percentage.

Three Raiders scored in double figures including senior Victoria Blackburn and freshman guards Ariel Jones and Lili Benzel. Blackburn led SU with a career-high 18 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and going 2-of-3 from behind the arc.

Jones and Benzel each scored 13 points in the loss. Jones has scored in double figures in each of her first three collegiate games while this marked the first time Benzel reached double figures in her young career.

Slippery Rock was led by Madison Johnson who scored a game-high 27 points, shooting 11-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from three point land.

The SU bench outscored "The Rock" bench on the afternoon, 22-17. Benzel and redshirt-freshman Lindsay Embly led the reserve scoring effort with Embly adding seven points and two rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Shippensburg will return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when it goes on the road to take on Edinboro in another PSAC contest.
