No. 1 Field Hockey Downs No. 5 Slippery Rock on the Road, 3-1

SU gets goals from Spisak, Hoffman and Barnard in win

The No. 1 Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the fourth consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 5 Slippery Rock, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) clash from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Shippensburg (10-1, 5-0 PSAC) notched its eighth consecutive win, including five straight in conference with today's result over Slippery Rock (8-5, 3-2). It was the second win of the year over Slippery Rock, as the Raiders also notched a 5-2 victory back on September 16.

Senior Mary Spisak opened the scoring for SU in the 25th minute, notching her seventh goal of the season from the right side of the circle.

Senior Kylie Huffman would give the Raiders a two-goal advantage just five minutes later after finding the back of the net off an assist from freshman Caitlyn Wink.

The Rock would tally its lone goal of the match in the 32nd minute to cut the Raider advantage to just one entering halftime.

Senior Emily Barnard would add an insurance goal for SU in the 45th minute, giving her 13 goals through 11 games this season.

Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Ally Mooney recorded two saves on the day to notch her 10th win on the year.

Shippensburg hosts Messiah, the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division III, at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Robb Sports Complex.
