SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team fell on the road at Bloomsburg Wednesday afternoon, 4-3, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Steph Pettit Stadium.
Shippensburg (2-8-1, 1-8 PSAC) raced out to a 2-0 lead in first half and held a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes to play, but Bloomsburg (7-2-2, 6-2-2) rallied for three unanswered goals in a six-minute span to steal a conference win.
Sophomore
Izzy Weigel got Shippensburg on the board in the eighth minute with her team-high fourth goal of the year. SU would score its second goal off a corner taken by junior
Kiersten Priest in the 23rd minute. The goal marked Priest's second goal of the year.
Bloomsburg would cut into the SU lead just five minutes into the second half with a goal from Mackenzie Gebhardt. SU would respond with a goal of its own just four minutes later when senior
Mallory Patterson's header off a free kick taken by junior
Mariah Varner found the back of the net in the 55th minute.
The Huskies would not go away quietly, however, rallying with its decisive three-goal burst to take the match.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Courtney Merwin made five saves for SU in the loss.
Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown at David See Field.
