Cole Kropnick scored a golden goal 1:37 into double overtime Wednesday night to propel the Shippensburg University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Steph Pettit Stadium.
Shippensburg (4-5-2, 2-3-0 PSAC) notched its second league win by converting on a scrum following a free kick. Kropnick found his way to a deflection and saw to it that the ball made its way into the back of the net.
It was Kropnick's team-leading ninth goal of the season and his second game-winner of 2017. Kropnick ranks second in the PSAC in goals and in points (20) through 10 contests.
It was the fourth double-overtime game of the season for the Raiders, who are now 1-1-2 in such contests this season.
Bloomsburg (1-7-0, 0-5-0) finished with a 6-3 edge in shots on goal and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Huskies goalkeeper Taylor Lesage made one save, while a BU defender was credited with a team save on a header by senior
Jamie Blair in the 72nd minute.
Sophomore
Garret Watson picked up his first win of the year, recording six saves en route to his fourth career shutout.
Shippensburg hosts Pitt-Johnstown at 6:30 p.m. Saturday from David See Field.
