SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team defeated Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Homecoming Weekend from David See Field.
Shippensburg (6-10-1, 5-10 PSAC) took a 1-0 lead over Mercyhurst (4-8-4, 3-8-3) in the 30th minute on a goal from freshman
Taylor Moore off an assist from junior
Mariah Varner. It was Moore's fifth goal of the year.
SU held the 1-0 lead for much of the match until Mercyhurst found the equalizer in the 75th minute on a goal from Emma Scali. The Raiders would waste little time in taking the lead back when sophomore Isabella Weigel found the back off the net five minutes later off a corner attempt taken by junior
Kiersten Priest.
It was the ninth goal of the season for Weigel, who now ranks sixth in the PSAC in goals and ninth in points.
Shippensburg has now won three of its last four PSAC matches and conclude its regular season at 3:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Slippery Rock for Senior Day.
Before the match, SU will honor
