SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team had its Senior Day spoiled by Slippery Rock on Saturday, as the Raiders concluded the 2017 season with a 3-0 setback to The Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at David See Field.
Shippensburg (6-11-1, 5-11 PSAC) could not overcome the steady offensive pressure of Slippery Rock (10-5-2, 10-4-2), as the visitors scored three times in the first 17 minutes of play and finished with a 14-4 edge in shots on goal. The Rock entered Saturday's match as the No. 8 team in the Atlantic Region.
Freshman
Delaney Shifflett had a sterling relief performance in goal Saturday, making eight saves in more than 73 minutes of action. Shifflett made numerous diving stops and others at point-blank range to deny multiple sure-fire scoring chances for The Rock.
The Raiders started all six of its seniors on Saturday, with
Sofia Perzan,
Bailey Bzdak,
Kat Hartner and
Mallory Patterson playing up front,
Anna Snee in the defensive midfield, and
Kayla Kennedy in goal. The women have been a part of 34 victories at Shippensburg, including the first back-to-back 10-win seasons (2015, 2016) in school history.
