No. 1 Field Hockey Conducts 2017 Senior Day But Falls to Kutztown, 3-0

SU honors 11 senior players but is held off the scoresheet by the Golden Bears

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team recognized its 2017 senior class on Saturday in advance of its final regular-season home game, but the Raiders fell to Kutztown, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (12-3, 7-1 PSAC) managed to outshoot Kutztown (10-6, 5-4) by seven (20-13), with 15 of those shots being on goal, but the Raiders could not find a way to get one past Kutztown goalkeeper Chardonnay Hope.

The Golden Bears scored two first-half goals and added an insurance goal in the 64th minute to secure the win. The loss was Shippensburg's first conference setback of the year.

Before the match, the Raiders honored 11 seniors: Emily Barnard, Becca Bausinger, Rebecca Bouyea, Morgan Gantz, Kylie Huffman, Catherine Matuszko, Rajchel Moore, Madison Scarr, Brooke Sheibley, Mary Spisak and Lauren Zengulis.

This year's senior class entered the match having contributed to a 60-15 record over the last four years, including appearances in four PSAC Tournaments and two NCAA Tournaments while winning the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship. Among the many accomplishments by these outstanding players includes 98 career goals, 27 game-winning goals, and 56 assists along with four All-PSAC honors, two NFHCA All-America honors, and an Elite 90 award.

Shippensburg travels to No. 3 Millersville on Wednesday for a pivotal league showdown that will go a long way in determining the host of the 2017 PSAC Field Hockey Championships. Start time is 4 p.m. Wednesday from the Biemesderfer.
