The Shippensburg University women's soccer team battled the No. 2 team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on Wednesday afternoon but came up short at No. 22 West Chester, dropping a hard-fought 2-0 decision to the Golden Rams on a sunny autumn afternoon from Rockwell Field.
Shippensburg (5-10-1, 4-10 PSAC) yielded an early goal in the sixth minute but remained within striking distance of West Chester (11-2-1, 11-2) for the majority of the match. The Raiders were playing in their third conference match in the last six days.
SU managed three shots on goal and trailed by just one goal until Nikki Zaso scored for the second time in the match with just 3:57 left in regulation.
Freshman
Delaney Shifflett made eight saves in goal for the Raiders – she has now recorded 34 saves over her last four matches and yielded just three tallies.
The hosts finished with a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal and also recorded seven corner kicks compared to just one for the Raiders.
Shippensburg hosts Mercyhurst at 2 p.m. Saturday from David See Field.
