The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored three times in the second half on Sunday night to win for the third time in its last four matches, defeating Millersville by a 3-0 score and securing
Rob Fulton his 100th victory as SU's head coach.
Shippensburg (5-9-1, 4-9 PSAC) and Millersville (4-8-2, 3-8-2) were scoreless at the half before the Raiders got on the board in the 61st minute. Sophomore
Izzy Weigel notched her second goal in as many matches off an assist from junior
Chloe Flemion.
Weigel's eighth goal of the season gives her the most by a Raider in a single season in eight years, dating back to the 2009 season in which Gayle Kuntzmann scored 11 goals.
Following the goal, Fulton substituted freshman
Taylor Moore back into the match to provide senior
Kat Hartner a respite. Eleven minutes later, Moore scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0 Raiders.
In the 80th minute, senior
Bailey Bzdak scored her second goal of the season when she knocked home a rebound after her initial shot was stopped.
Freshman
Delaney Shifflett came up big for the Raiders, posting her second shutout in as many matches and making 10 saves – seven in the second half. It is also the second time this season (and this week) that Shifflett has been credited with double-digit saves.
The SU defense finished the week yielding just one goal in three conference matches.
Shippensburg travels to West Chester on Wednesday for a noon matchup with the Golden Rams.
