The Shippensburg University women's soccer team battled No. 2-ranked Kutztown on Tuesday but came up just short, dropping a 1-0 decision to the undefeated Golden Bears in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a warm and sunny afternoon from Keystone Field.
Shippensburg (3-9-1, 2-9 PSAC) yielded a goal in the fifth minute of play on a shot that ricocheted in off the post, but the Raiders remained in the contest for the duration behind sturdy goalkeeping and defense. Freshman
Delaney Shifflett was credited with a career-high 11 saves on the day.
Kutztown (12-0, 10-0) finished with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. SU finished with a total of seven shots – including one credited on goal to junior
Beth McGee.
SU falls to 2-5 this season in one-goal matches.
Shippensburg hosts California at 4 p.m. Friday from David See Field.
