SU wins 17th straight over Mansfield; Snyder records career-high seven assists

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Senior Morgan Griffith became the third player in school history to achieve 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points in a career on Monday night as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team used a strong first half to sail past Mansfield, 75-47, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest from Decker Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (10-5, 5-4 PSAC) won its fifth straight game by racing out to a fast start, building a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and a 37-16 advantage by halftime. The 16 points are the fewest allowed in the first half this season by the Raiders.

Griffith grabbed her sixth rebound of the game at the 5:55 mark of the third quarter to join Lauren Beckley (2,407 points, 1,151 rebounds) and Ashley Totedo (2,050 points, 1,489 rebounds) in the SU record books. She becomes just the 23rd player in PSAC history to achieve the milestone. Griffith totaled 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds on Monday.

Seven Raiders finished with at least six points on the night. Senior Colleen Young finished with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Young is averaging 18 points per game in her last three outings against the Mountaineers.

Senior Logan Snyder put forth 12 points and a career-high seven assists to go along with three steals (one shy of a career high) and two rebounds. Snyder was 4-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. Graduate Stephanie Knauer added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.

SU got a season-high 25 bench points on Monday, including eight each from juniors Victoria Blackburn and Kristin McGeough. Blackburn tied career highs with four rebounds and three steals, while McGeough was one shy of her career high in scoring.

Senior Haley Scullion scored seven points, all in the first half, while senior Chanice Lee scored two points and had a career-high four assists.

Mansfield (3-10, 1-8) was out-rebounded by the Raiders, 38-23, and committed 21 turnovers. Shippensburg improved to 7-3 this season when posting a positive assist-to-turnover ratio, handing out 20 assists compared to 11 giveaways.

The Raiders have now won 17 straight over Mansfield dating back to the 2007-08 season.
