SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Logan Snyder became the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points on Wednesday night as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team rolled to its sixth straight win, 82-48, over visiting rival West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Heiges Field House.
 
Shippensburg (11-5, 6-4 PSAC), fresh off holding Mansfield to an opponent-season-low 16 first-half points on Monday, held West Chester (5-9, 5-5) to just 15 points in the first half on Wednesday. The Raiders out-scored the Golden Rams 23-5 in the second quarter to lead 42-15 at halftime en route to its second consecutive wire-to-wire victory.
 
Wednesday's game was a battle of the Top 2 teams in the conference's Eastern Division, but strong Raider defense and accurate free-throw shooting resulted in the contest being all but decided after just 20 minutes. SU shot 14-of-15 (93.3 percent) from the free-throw line in the first half and a season-best 18-of-20 (90 percent) for the game, while WCU was 1-of-5 (20 percent) before halftime. The Raider defense forced 13 first-half turnovers and held the visitors to 7-of-29 (24 percent) shooting at the intermission.
 
Snyder was 7-of-8 at the free-throw line, reaching 1,000 career points by making a shot at the charity stripe with 7:37 to play in the first half. She continued her impressive play of late with 14 points and five assists. Senior Morgan Griffith also had 14 points in the contest, shooting 5-of-9 from the field with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
Senior Colleen Young led all players with a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and making 4-of-5 at the charity stripe. Young also collected a season-high eight rebounds and had two assists. She has been the team's leading scorer in four of the last six games, averaging 13.5 points per game during that span.
 
Graduate Stephanie Knauer had 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while senior Lauren Gold rebounded with a strong performance of eight points, six assists and three rebounds without a turnover in 27 minutes on the floor.
 
Senior Chanice Lee tied her SU career-high with five points off the bench, while junior Victoria Blackburn contributed two points, three rebounds and four assists. Senior Haley Scullion had four points, two rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
 
Junior Kristin McGeough had five rebounds and joined sophomore Lauren Grzyboski with two points on the scoresheet.
 
Snyder's milestone gives Shippensburg four active players with 1,000 career points (Knauer 1,460, Griffith 1,276, Gold 1,140, Snyder 1,006), and a fifth player (Young) with 829 career points. SU's starting lineup enters Saturday having combined for 5,711 career points.
 
West Chester finished the game just 1-of-15 (6.7 percent) from three-point range and 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from the free-throw line. The Golden Rams got 14 points from Madison Torresin. It was the lowest scoring output in a game by West Chester since the 2011-12 season.
 
Shippensburg returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when it faces Lock Haven from Thomas Fieldhouse.
