SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team got a season-high 24 points Friday night from graduate
Stephanie Knauer and withstood an early rut to defeat visiting Bloomsburg, 63-51, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (9-5, 4-4 PSAC) won its fourth straight game by out-scoring Bloomsburg (1-11, 0-8) by a 37-17 margin in the middle quarters. The Raiders led by just one point at halftime, 24-23, after trailing by six points following the first quarter. SU led by six points, 33-27, with 6:48 left in the third quarter before embarking upon a 13-4 run to lead by 15.
In the third quarter, SU scored 12 points off six Bloomsburg turnovers and out-scored the Huskies 23-10 in the decisive frame. Overall, the Raiders allowed just 12 points in the paint and shot 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) from the free-throw line en route to the team's second straight win over the Huskies.
Bloomsburg opened the game on a 13-0 run, forcing a Shippensburg timeout just 4:16 into the contest. The Huskies, however, would score just 10 points for the remainder of the half despite the Raiders shooting 20 percent (3-of-15) from the field in the opening quarter.
Knauer's fourth 20-point game of the season featured a 10-of-15 shooting performance, as her .640 field-goal percentage for the season remains one of the Top 5 marks in NCAA Division II. Her 24 points came in just 28 minutes, as second-half foul trouble limited her time on the floor. Knauer's line also included seven rebounds and two blocks.
Senior
Logan Snyder scored 13 points, making both of her three-point attempts and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line. Snyder made SU's only two three-pointers of the night, as the rest of the team finished 0-of-9 from distance. Snyder had five points, four assists and a team-high three steals while committing just two turnovers. She enters next week just 20 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Senior
Morgan Griffith was limited to six first-half minutes because of foul trouble but came on strong down the stretch, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds. Griffith enters Monday's game just six rebounds shy of becoming the second player in school history with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Senior
Colleen Young had nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, senior
Haley Scullion made two of her three shot attempts on the night while junior
Kristin McGeough provided three points and three rebounds in six minutes.
Shippensburg travels to Mansfield on Monday for a 5:30 clash with the Mounties from Decker Gymnasium. A live audio broadcast of the game will be available at shipraiders.com.
