The Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, 7-1, in a non-conference matchup from Mansfield, Pa. at the Dr. Art DeGenaro Classic.
Shippensburg (2-0) used two goals from junior
Lauren Zengulis to take a 2-0 halftime advantage over SCSU (0-1). Junior
Emily Barnard assisted on Zengulis's first goal. Zengulis's goals were recorded just 1:53 apart from another.
Shippensburg tallied two more goals early in the second half off the sticks of junior
Brooke Sheibley and Barnard. Both goals were their first of the season. Sheibley scored off a penalty corner in the 49th minute while Barnard scored in the 50th minute off a deflection.
Sophomore
Brooke Zeiders joined in on the scoring affair with a goal in the 58th minute off an assist from freshman
Hannah Selassie. Just 32 seconds later, sophomore
Noelle Kephart scored her first goal of the season on an assist from sophomore
Lena Witthoff.
SCSU scored in the 65th minute to get on the board on a goal from Bailey McGinnis. Shippensburg responded however with Kephart's second goal of the day in the 69th minute.

Shippensburg returns to action at 11 a.m. tomorrow for a matchup against Saint Michael's from Mansfield, Pa.
