The Shippensburg University men's soccer team was unable to rally from a two-goal deficit on Wednesday, dropping a non-conference road match at West Virginia Wesleyan by a 2-1 score from Culpepper Stadium in Buckhannon.
Shippensburg (5-4) got a goal in the 74th minute on a free kick by junior
Jan Striewe, his fourth tally of the season, but SU ultimately could not equal the match. The Raiders applied steady offensive pressure throughout the final 10 minutes of play.
West Virginia Wesleyan (4-5) converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute and added to its lead in the 54th minute with a goal on a scoring opportunity from inside the box. The Bobcats out-shot the Raiders, 12-9, but SU managed a 4-1 advantage in corners.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Garret Watson was credited with five saves in the loss.
Shippensburg returns to PSAC play on Saturday with a less than desirable 7:30 p.m. start time at Gannon.
