Women’s Soccer Drops Huskies in Overtime, 1-0, on Bzdak’s Golden Goal

SU posts its third-straight overtime road victory at Bloomsburg

Junior Bailey Bzdak headed home a golden goal 1:58 into overtime Tuesday night to propel the Shippensburg University women's soccer team to a pivotal 1-0 road victory over Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Steph Pettit Stadium.

Shippensburg (6-4, 4-4 PSAC) achieved its fourth consecutive shutout victory over Bloomsburg (4-3-2, 3-3-2) when Bzdak headed home a corner kick from senior Stephanie Allshouse for the win.

It was Bzdak's third goal of the year, and Allshouse's team-leading fourth assist. All four of Allshouse's assists have come off corner kicks.

Tuesday also marked the third straight trip to Bloomsburg that Shippensburg has emerged victorious on a golden goal in overtime. In 2013, Jenna Brown scored to give SU a 1-0 victory. The year before, in 2012, Mackenzie Neal scored to give the Raiders a 2-1 victory.

Shippensburg was the victor but was out-chanced by the host Huskies, as Bloomsburg posted a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal (both teams also had a shot hit a post in the first half). Redshirt-junior Leah Roy continued her excellent play with nine saves in the victory.

The victory was a welcome change of fortune for the Raiders. It was the team's third straight overtime match, but first win of the three, after extra-session losses last week to Kutztown (double overtime) and West Chester.

Shippensburg returns to action at 5 p.m. Saturday with a PSAC road match at Gannon.
