Women’s Soccer Drops PSAC Road Match at Gannon, 3-0

SU allows three second-half goals, Roy makes seven saves

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 road decision at Gannon on Saturday evening, a tough loss in an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup held at McConnell Family Stadium.

Shippensburg (6-5, 4-5 PSAC) and Gannon (4-3-1, 4-3) played to a scoreless first half, but the Golden Knights erupted after halftime. The home team scored off a corner kick three minutes into the second half, and then added another tally in the 58th minute. A third goal came from more than 30 yards out with less than five minutes to play.

SU, which entered Saturday ranked eighth in the NSCAA Atlantic Regional rankings, had several scoring chances in the match. In the first half, junior Mallory Patterson had an opportunity but was stymied by a drawn-out Gannon keeper near the top of the box.

Senior Ashley Weaver hit the crossbar in the 83rd minute, and freshman Paige Harris had a shot stopped by a defender in the final 90 seconds.

The Raiders also had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks and were whistled three times for offsides.

Junior Leah Roy was credited with seven saves. Roy has made seven or more saves in each of the team's last four matches.

Shippensburg returns home at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday versus Seton Hill in a PSAC matchup at David See Field.
