SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Ashley Weaver scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 80th minute, as the Shippensburg University women's soccer team outlasted visiting Seton Hill, 3-2, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown from David See Field.
Shippensburg (7-5, 5-5 PSAC) fell behind in the sixth minute, but Weaver answered with a distance strike in the 12th minute to tie the score. Three minutes later, SU took the lead when a cross from junior
Kat Hartner went into the net off the leg of senior
Casey Rightmyer.
Seton Hill (4-5-2, 4-5-2) answered in the 35th minute, when a long shot from Emily LoPresti traveled toward the goal and was elevated high into the net after glancing off the head of an SU defender. The first goal by the Griffins was clinical, as Katie Kimmich shot home a long through ball from LoPresti.
Weaver's goal in the 80th minute came after she got some separation after receiving the ball off a head-pass from junior
Mallory Patterson and sent a shot over the Griffin keeper. Weaver matched her season goal total entering the match with her two tallies Wednesday night.
Overall, Shippensburg posted an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal (20-16 overall in shots) and a 7-3 margin in corner kicks. Redshirt-junior
Leah Roy made three saves in the win.
SU continues a pivotal stretch of PSAC matches at 4 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Mercyhurst at David See Field.
