The No. 3 Shippensburg University field hockey team used first-half goals Monday from junior
Kylie Huffman and freshman
Hannah Selassie to get past Limestone, 2-0, in a non-conference match held in Lynchburg, Va.
Shippensburg (8-1) out-shot Limestone (4-4) by a 12-0 margin in the first half and capitalized on a pair of penalty corners. At the 24:30 mark, Huffman scored off an assist from senior
Taylor Fisher. It was Huffman's first goal of 2016.
Seven minutes later, Selassie scored off an assist from senior
Cassie Rawa. It is the second straight game that Rawa set up Selassie for a goal – as the duo hooked up Saturday for the fourth goal in the win over Seton Hill.
The Raiders maintained their excellent defensive work. Shippensburg yielded just two shots on goal in the match, propelling redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Ally Mooney to her sixth individual shutout of the season and the seventh overall by the Raiders through nine matches.
Overall, SU posted a 16-4 margin in shots and a 16-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Shippensburg returns to PSAC play at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a home match vs. IUP from Robb Sports Complex.
