Ashley Weaver scored in the 55th minute Thursday to guide the Shippensburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 road non-conference victory at Goldey-Beacom from NCS Field in Wilmington, Del.
Shippensburg (5-2) won its second match in the last three days by limiting Goldey-Beacom (4-1) to just two shots on goal, both of which were stopped by SU junior goalkeeper
Kayla Kennedy. In the 85th minute, Kennedy made a leaping save to her right, tipping the ball away for a resulting corner kick that went for naught.
Weaver's first goal of the season came off an assist from junior
Bailey Bzdak; she tucked her shot inside the right post for the tally.
Overall, SU out-shot the Lightning 13-7 and posted a 5-2 margin in corner kicks.
All five of SU's wins this season have been shutouts, as the Raiders have now out-scored the opposition 14-5.
The win for Kennedy is her first between the pipes since notching a 1-0 shutout over IUP last season on Oct. 31, 2015.
Shippensburg does not play this weekend, returning to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday versus Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown from David See Field.
