SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Mansfield on a hot and warm Saturday, 5-0, to win its home opener at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (4-0) used three first half goals to defeat Mansfield (1-2) and earn their fourth straight victory to begin the year. Junior
Emily Barnard got the Raiders off to a quick start after scoring in the fourth minute on an assist from senior
Katelyn Grazan.
Grazan followed suit with a goal in the ninth minute off an assist from junior
Brooke Sheibley to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Barnard tallied her second goal of the game in the 19th minute off an assist from freshman
Rosalia Cappadora to give Shippensburg a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
Grazan registered her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute off an assist from junior
Lauren Zengulis to push the lead to 4-0.
Sophomore
Noelle Kephart tallied the Raiders fifth goal of the contest in the 63rd minute off an assist from junior
Rajchel Moore.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ally Mooney made two saves in recording her third shutout of the season.
Shippensburg will return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday at IUP.
