Lacrosse Drops PSAC Road Match in Frigid Conditions at Seton Hill, 15-8

SU was within two goals at halftime; game featured snow and sub-40 degree temperatures

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team hung with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Seton Hill throughout the first half on Saturday, but the Raiders could not stave off the Griffins in a 15-8 loss on a frigid, grey, snowy afternoon in Greensburg.

Shippensburg (3-9, 0-8 PSAC) trailed Seton Hill (6-7, 5-4) by just two goals, 5-3, at the intermission. The Griffins responded with seven consecutive goals coming out of halftime to take control of the match. SU scored four of the final five tallies during the final 10 minutes of play.

Six different Raiders scored goals. Sophomore Allison Fugate got SU on the board with a free-position tally exactly nine minutes into the game. Junior Amanda Frank scored four minutes later, and freshman Kyra Shank found the back of the net just 1:56 before halftime off an assist from freshman Maggie Lawshe.

Freshman Madi Newman scored twice, with both tallies coming in the final five minutes. Junior Ali Harclerode, sophomore Sarah McLeod and junior Max Barkley also scored in the second half for Shippensburg.

In the undesirable weather conditions, the two teams combined for 53 turnovers. SU converted just 12-of-27 clears, while Seton Hill helped dictate possession with a 16-9 advantage on draws.

Junior Annemarie Cericola was a workhorse once again along the back lines. She collected team highs of six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Cericola continues to lead the PSAC with 55 groundballs and a 4.58 groundballs-per-game average (third in Division II). She is also fifth in the PSAC with 19 caused turnovers (1.58 per-game average).

Freshman Valerie Hertz continued her fine rookie season with four groundballs, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Barkley had four draw controls and three groundballs for the Raiders.

Senior Ally Frymoyer made five saves in the loss.

Shippensburg travels to No. 7 West Chester on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. conference showdown with the Golden Rams.
