Lacrosse Rallies but Drops PSAC Road Match at Slippery Rock, 11-7

SU posts advantage in draw controls; five six different Raiders score goals

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team scored three times in the final three minutes Saturday at Slippery Rock but could not overcome an early deficit, dropping an 11-7 decision to The Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Shippensburg (4-11, 1-10) got a pair of goals from sophomore Sarah McLeod and a tally from junior Amanda Frank to get within three goals at the 1:32 mark. McLeod had the two goals and assisted on Frank's tally. Frank had two assists, including a helper on a goal by junior T.J. Johnson that opened the scoring for SU.

Sophomore Allison Fugate scored in the final minute of the first half, while freshman Madi Newman and junior Ali Harclerode posted second-half tallies. Fugate assisted on Harclerode's tally.

Slippery Rock (9-7, 5-6) held the Raiders to just two first-half tallies and got a hat trick from Tia Torchia. The Rock committed seven less turnovers than the Raiders and secured 12 more groundballs during the contest.

SU did achieve a 12-8 advantage on draw controls. Junior Max Barkley had six of those, while Harclerode and Frank each had two.

Junior Annemarie Cericola had five groundballs and two caused turnovers. She has matched her season high of 64 groundballs, a total that is nine more than any other PSAC player and ranks fourth in NCAA Division II. Sophomore Makenzie Magnotta led the Raiders on the day with six groundballs.

Senior Ally Frymoyer was busy, tying her season high with 13 saves. Frymoyer made seven saves in the second half. It is the fourth time in a match this season and the 24th time in her career that she has recorded double-digit saves in a contest.

Shippensburg concludes its regular season at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bloomsburg.
